He took a degree in acting from the Theatre Academy in Belgrade, and in directing from Academy for Theatre, Film and Television (today Academy of Drama Arts) in Zagreb. He made his directing debut with one episode, Duga ulica, in the omnibus Ključ (1965, the two other directors were Krsto Papić and Antun Vrdoljak). His most famous work is the film Kužiš stari moj (1973), an adaptation of the novel with the same title by Zvonimir Majdak, about young urban people on the social margins. As an actor, he appeared in a few films in smaller roles (e.g. Da mi je biti morski pas, 1999, by Ognjen Sviličić) and, more often, in theatre. He is also the author of several theatre plays and radio and television dramas. He was the co-director (with Zoran Sudar) of the popular TV series Naši i vaši (2000).
