Birth: 5. 10. 1958., Virovitica
Along with Lukas Nola, Ogresta is the most eminent Croatian film author of the 90’s. Already with his feature film debut, Krhotine, a narratively fresh story about the ill (political) fate of a family through its three generations, he achieved great success, and was nominated for the Felix (today the European Film Award) in the category of best young director. He got a degree in film and television directing from the Academy for theatre, film and television (today Academy of Drama Arts, ADU) in Zagreb, in the department of Krešo Golik. He made several short feature films that won awards abroad (e.g. Zabranjena igračka, 1987) and many TV dramas (e.g. Olujna noć, 1987; Leo i Brigita, 1988). In his feature films, that won several awards at international festivals, he showed talent in narrative structuring, and engagement in social, political, but above all emotional themes. That is particularly evident in the care for his characters, usually losers from the edges of society. He teaches directing at the Academy of Drama Arts.
