Synopsis:
An archeologist returns from an assignment in Catalonia to his home in Split. Soon after, he commits suicide. His friend finds an audio tape that helps him in uncovering the reasons for the archeologist’s suicide…

Commentary:
This is the only feature film by the legendary author of experimental films Ivan Martinac. As are his experimental films, this is a meditative structuralist film dealing with the theme of death. Ivo Skrabalo, historian of Croatian cinema, wrote, “Even though it is too long and exhausting to watch, in Kuća na pijesku one can easily recognize the uncompromising esthetic outlook of this great film author”.
